You may have seen television commercials and news articles over the last few months about the increase of chlamydia in sexually active young people. We are being asked to actively encourage 16 – 24 year olds to have regular screening. Therefore we are inviting you to collect a screening kit from the surgery; you will not need an appointment with a nurse or doctor to discuss this test.
If you are female you will need to take swabs and the kit contains the instructions of how to do this. If you are male the test is carried out on a urine sample.
It is advised that the test is done when sexually active, thereafter annually or on changing partners. Chlamydia is a serious disease and can lead to infertility if left untreated and can often present with no symptoms which means you may not know that you have it.
The Chlamydia Screening Office will notify you of the results via your preferred method of contact in order to do this you will need to be able to give two forms of contact, e.g. an address and mobile phone number. The Screening Office will also arrange any treatment if the test is positive and arrange partner tracing.
If you are unsure about completing the test or have any questions we will be holding an open session where an appropriately trained member of staff will be able to discuss any concerns.
